Walking in the City forest the other day I noticed a pine tree with a few gnaw marks at the base of the tree trunk. I though a squirrel or mouse may have chewed it.

The next day while walking again Dave noticed the same tree with all the bark gone from the base to the tippy top of the tree. The tree was just nothing more than a twig of a pine tree so any rather large animal would not be able to climb to the top without breaking the top off. There was no bark left at the base of the tree from where it was removed.

Made me wonder what chewed the bark off this tree.  Would a squirrel or mouse do such a thing.   Or maybe a pine bug, but usually a pine bug would strip the branches clean too.  I found this highly unusual because all the trees around it has been untouched.
